Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of the 17th National Prayer Convocation of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Owerri on Friday, Eze noted that almost all the states in America had consented to the bill on same-sex marriage.
He said that out of 55 countries in Africa, only five, including Nigeria, were yet to give in to same-sex marriage.
The bishop, who is also the National Coordinator of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Prayer Conference, identified poverty and the crave for international aid as the forces attracting African countries to accept same-sex marriage.
He said that same-sex marriage was going contrary to the word of God which admonished a man to leave his parents and be joined to his wife and not to a fellow man in marriage.
Eze commended the Nigerian government and the National Assembly for rejecting same-sex marriage.
He said the aim of the prayer conference was to seek God’s intervention in the affairs of the country and the church.
Eze said it was also to institute God’s mandate in the country through praying out corruption and other social ills that had been the bane of the nation.
According to him, the prayer conference started in 1993 in Port Harcourt to enable the members to always stand in prayer for the church and the nation.
“The nation is marred by corruption, increase in poverty level, lawlessness, terrorism and other social ills. The only solution is prayer.
“God has a programme for the country and it is only prayers that can birth it,” Eze said.
The cleric urged Nigerian leaders to always seek the face of God and make effort to deal with corruption.
He urged them to ensure massive development of the nation that would lead to massive employment.
Eze expressed the hope that the participants in the prayer conference would continue to pray for the country while peace and development would be manifested. (NAN)
