Tsav appeals for IGP’s intervention in curbing security challenges in Benue

Makurdi – An ex Police Commissioner, Abubakar Tsav, has appealed to the IGP, Mr Solomon Arase, to intervene by drafting a special police squad to curb the incessant killings in Benue.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Makurdi, Tsav regretted that the state had become so insecured that residents were living perpetually in fear of attacks.

He regretted that in the last one month, more than 20 people had been killed by unknown gunmen in the Katsina-Ala/ Ukum axis and claimed that those killed were mostly PDP members.

Tsav said the intervention of the IGP was imperative owing to the inability of the police command to track down the killers and guarantee safety of lives and property in the state.

He traced the history of illegal acquisition of arms in the state to 1999 when thuggery was emboldened by politicians to suppress opposition parties in the state.

According to him, the amnesty program being proposed by Gov Samuel Ortom is just a ruse and not the solution to the problem.

NAN recalls that Gov Ortom has proposed to use the amnesty program to mop up illegal arms in circulation in the state.(NAN)
