Dutse-The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will provide residential accommodation for all its Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) by 2019, an official of the commission has said.
Amb. Muhammad Wali the National Commissioner in charge of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Dutse when he inaugurated the residential quarter for the REC in Jigawa.
He said that the management of the commission was making efforts to provide befitting accommodation for all its RECs as a way of ensuring the independence of the commission.
He said that the prototype of the accommodation had been constructed in 19 states.
“The first phase of this project started in 2011 in the six geo-political zones and Jigawa happens to be one of these states,’’ he said.
Wali said the construction of the residential quarter for the Jigawa’s REC cost the commission N100 million.
