Awka – The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday paraded 34 suspected cultists and six others allegedly involved in kidnapping and car snatching.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hassan Karma, while parading the suspects in Awka, said that some of the cultists were students of two higher institutions in the state.
Karma said that the suspected cultists were students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The commissioner said that the cultists who belonged to various cult groups had terrorised Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area.
He called on parents to monitor the activities of their children, stressing that the police would collaborate with the various security agencies to fish out criminals in the state.
The police boss said that the two suspected kidnappers were members of a syndicate which had terrorised the state for long.

He said that the suspects kidnapped an aged woman in a farm at Uli in Ihiala Local Government Area but were arrested in their attempt to collect ransom.
The commissioner explained that other members of the gang were still at large, assuring that the command would soon track them.
Similarly, four suspected car snatchers who specialised in stealing cars in Onitsha and Asaba were also paraded.
Karma assured the people of the state that the coming yuletide would be peaceful, saying: “Other security agencies are in collaboration to ensure that the feat is achieved.’’
The commissioner expressed gratitude to the state governor for his assistance to security agencies in the state.
Forty eight other cultists who were brought to the police station by the President-General of Obosi Town Union, Mr Dan Igbokwubile, denounced their membership of the various cult groups.
They pledged to assist the community and police in fighting crime in the area. (NAN)
