Mr Olusegun Oshinowo, the Director-General, Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), on Monday called on the new owners of the power sector to dialogue with the workers to avert industrial crisis.
Oshinowo made the call at an interactive session with journalists in Lagos.
He said that the new owners should look for ways to come together and dialogue with the workers.
“Privatisation cannot end with the handing over of assets, hence industrial relation system must be properly managed in the sector to avert crisis,’’ he said.
Oshinowo said that any crisis in the sector would be devastating for the nation’s economy, hence the need for proactive measures to avert it.
“The new employers must first of all learn to unionise the workers in line with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention and labour laws in Nigeria.
“The right to associate with any union of their choice, and the right to collective bargaining must be recognised by the new owners,” he said.
Oshinowo said that NECA had invited the new owners to a meeting scheduled to hold later in the month on how to create conducive business environment to grow the sector.
