Onitsha (Anambra) – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said that it will partner with Anambra governor’s Wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, on road safety campaign in 177 communities in the state.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Ajayi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha on Tuesday.
Ajayi said the commission would be joining the governor’s wife in her August meeting tours to women in the 177 communities in the state.
He said the visit would afford the commission the opportunity of speaking to women both the young and aged on road safety matters and concerns.
“We thank her Excellency for graciously partnering with us and allowing the FRSC team to follow her to visit the 177 communities in Anambra State.
“We would be using some time in her schedule with the various communities to enlighten our mothers, sisters and generally women on road safety matters.
“We know and research had proven that women have a lot of influence on their male counterparts no matter how the relationship stands or how related they are.
“So, we want to appeal to the women to put their overwhelming influence on their male counterparts, especially warning them on the dangers of speeding and drinking before driving,’’ he said.
He also noted that the FRSC enlightenment message would be drummed by some widows, who lost their husbands due to road crashes and other related matters.
“I believe some women that lost their love ones and breadwinners due to road crashes would be on hand to help the corps spread the message of Safer Roads, Fuller Lives,’’ he said.
Ajayi noted that thousands of fliers and leaflets would be distributed as take-home materials to the women in all the communities. (NAN)
