Zuba (FCT) -The police on Wednesday brought one Ortega Kinga, 34, before a Zuba Upper Area Court for allegedly beating a pregnant woman.
Kinga was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and causing hurt.
The accused denied the charges.
The Presiding Officer, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, following the plea of not guilty, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Arziki Kaura, told the court that on Aug. 8, one Loveth Nwaneri of Dutse Baupma-Abuja reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji police station.
Kaura said that the complainant reported the case the same date the accused allegedly assaulted her.
He said Kinga used iron rod to hit plaintiff on the head, left side of her stomach and her legs, causing her injuries.
“The accused criminally assaulted the complainant because of a mere misunderstanding between them and not minding that she is heavily pregnant,’’ he said.
