Paparazzi urged to halt harassment of toddler Prince George

London – Britain’s royal family, on Friday, appealed to photographers to allow two year old Prince George to enjoy his life free from `harassment and surveillance.’

The appeal follows a series of recent photographers that suggest photographers are going to increasingly extreme lengths to observe and monitor George’s movements.

Jason Knauf, Press Secretary to the prince’s parents, William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, in an open letter, said paparazzi also secretly capture images of him.

Knauf said a disturbing incident took place last week when a photographer hid himself in the back of a car close to a children’s play area in a bid to get pictures of George.

“Police discovered him lying down in the boot of the vehicle attempting to shoot photos with a long lens through a small gap in his hide”, he said.

“Such incidents are becoming more frequent and the tactics more alarming’’, Knauf noted.

He said that photographers had also followed the prince and his nanny around London parks, monitored the movements of other royal staff, pursued cars leaving royal residences.

He said photographers also used other children to draw George into view around playgrounds just to get pictures of him.

“It is of course upsetting that such tactics are being deployed to profit from the image of a two year old boy.

“A line has been crossed and any further escalation in tactics would represent a very real security risk”, Knauf said. (dpa/NAN)
