Abuja – Chairman of Osun Babes Women Football Club, Akim Adio, says the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) needs to get sponsors for the Women’s Federation Cup and Nigeria Women Professional League (NWFL).
Adio told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the NFF needs to do this in order to improve the standard of women football in the country.
“Women football league is lacking behind the male league. In the male league, they pay the indemnity of match officials while the reverse is the case in the female league.
“In the female league all the expenses are taken care of by the owners of the clubs.
“For a team to honour a match at home, the owner of the club has to spend close to N500,000.
“He has to pay for the usage of the pitch, pay match officials and security personnel, settle hotel bills and must also take care of his team.
“This is too much on the women football clubs in the league.
“For instance, FC Robo of Lagos could not honour two of their home matches because of financial reasons,’’ he said.
Adio, however, frowned at the transfer of female players abroad without paying the club owners.
“Whenever they invite a player abroad in the male league, they will pay the owner of the club but in the female league nothing happens.

“The Women Football Unit in the NFF and the Federation as a whole need to do something in this regard.
“Osun Babes FC have been in existence in the past 11 years and we have never receive any money from the Unit or the NFF,’’ he said.(NAN)
