Lagos – The Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old labourer, Uzoma Duru, to two months imprisonment for stealing a Honda generator worth N80, 000.
Magistrate O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe, said: “Duru is sentenced to one month imprisonment for burglary and another month for stealing.
“The sentence, however, is with an option to serve 100 hours community service.
“The two months imprisonment will run consecutively or he can opt to serve 100 hours community service,’’ Fowowe-Erusiafe said.
Earlier, the convict had pleaded for leniency after admitting to the charges leveled against him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Duru, who gave no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing at his arraignment on Aug. 18.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Moses Uademevbo, had said that Duru stole the generator on Aug.16, at about 10.15 p.m., at No. 24, Ondo St., Ebute Meta.

He had said that Duru broke into the house of one Sekun Thomas and stole the generator which he absconded with but was apprehended sometime later.
Uademevbo said that Duru’s offences contravened sections 285 and 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN
