ABAKALIKI – Some residents of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital have lauded the inauguration of David Umahi as Governor, saying that his administration will bring peace to the state.
The residents, which included some former government’s appointees told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Saturday that Umahi would fulfill his pledges to usher in peace and revive the economy.
Mr Ben Okah, a former Commissioner for Public Utility in the state, extolled Umahi’s qualities and said that he had the capability to restore peace and move the state forward.
He said Umahi would takeoff from where former Gov. Martin Elechi had stopped in the development of infrastructure and generation of more revenue for the state.
“Governor David Umahi is competent, vocal and intelligent; we know he will bring genuine unity, collective prosperity to Ebonyi and enhance the socio-economic advancement of all Ebonyians, “ he said.
He called for the support of all Ebonyi people for the new administration in its efforts to embark on the transformation of the state and to alleviate mass poverty among the people.
Chief Felix Ereke, a former Chairman of Ishielu Local Government, said that Umahi as governor would carry out all his promises and policies to alleviate the suffering of the rural poor.
“We will support him and urge him to pay more attention to the Nigeria Cement Company, Nkalagu, to create job opportunities for Ebonyians.
“More attention should also be paid to the rural areas, rehabilitation of abandoned projects, roads and other public utilities to safeguard wastage of scarce resources,“ Ereke said.
Mrs Josephine Igwe, Principal, Comprehensive Secondary School Oriuzo, advised the new administration to focus more on human and capital development.
“Civil servants’ welfare should be paramount for enhancement of productivity, growth in every establishment as manpower is needed in every sector.
“We want better life for our people from this new administration and with collective responsibility we will achieve it,“ she said.

Former Chief Whip of Ebonyi House of Assembly, Mr Uchenna Oji, expressed joy at the inauguration of Umahi as governor, saying that his era would usher in progress and development in the state.
“People are confident that his leadership will bring great force for good and positive decisions to move the state forward, “ he said.
Mr Chinedu Nwaokwa, Ikwo Youth Coordinator, said he would encourage other youths to support the new administration in repositioning the state.
“We the youths of Ebonyi will contribute our part to ensure aggressive and positive development of the state, “ Nwaokwa said. (NAN)
