UMUAHIA – Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP governorship aspirant in Abia State, has appealed to leadership of the party in the state to create level playing field for all its aspirants during the governorship primaries.
Abaribe made the appeal in Umuahia on Friday at the party’s secretariat where he formally declared his intention to contest the 2015 governorship election in the state.
He said that a level playing field would lead to the emergence of a credible and qualified candidate.
He said although he supported zoning of the governorship position in 2015, the position should be won by merit.
He expressed his support with the views canvassed by Gov. Theodore Orji for the rotation of the governorship position to Abia South Senatorial District in 2015.
He noted that Abia North and Abia Central Senatorial Districts had taken their turns to produce governors.
“It is only fair and just that the next governor should come from Abia South’’, he said.
In his response, Chairman of PDP in Abia, Sen. Emma Nwaka, assured that the party would provide a level playing ground for all its candidates during the primaries.
He noted that since the inception of current leadership of the party in the state, the party had achieved cohesion.
He promised that the feat would be sustained beyond the primaries.
“We will conduct peaceful and credible primaries and at the end of the day, all the aspirants would embrace each other and the party will be stronger’’, he said.
Nwaka urged the aspirants not to see the election as do-or-die. (NAN)
