ABUJA – The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has expressed willingness to assist the Federal Government toward rescuing the abducted schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno.The group’s assistance offer is contained in a statement issued by its Chairman, Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement quoted Okorocha as saying “the PGF is deeply concerned about the activities of insurgents in the north east and is committed to working with the Federal Government toward tackling the menace.”
He described the abduction of the schoolgirls as an assault on the nation, an attack on civility, constitutionalism and colossal descent to barbarism.
The Forum chairman expressed gratitude to Nigerians and the international community for standing by the innocent school girls, their parents, the Chibok community and the people and government of Borno.
He pledged the Forum’s support to the girls’ parents and government of Borno to ensure that they received treatment for the physical and psychological trauma they might have suffered in captivity.
“We shall also undertake the rebuilding of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, to ensure that the students are able to resume normal life.
“More than ever before, we are resolute in our determination to move our dear nation forward as successful fight against terrorism is critical precondition for stability and constitutional governance.
“Together with all progressives and patriots, we will join hands to restore peace in Nigeria.’’
In a related development, the PGF had promised to support victims of the Nyanya bomb blast, an Abuja suburb, with N100 million. (NAN)
