Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka community was on thrown into mourning when the news of the death of a member of staff of the institution broke.

Engr. Emeka Chiaghana was abducted three ago from his home in Nibo, Awka South Local Area of the . His remains were reportedly found in a shallow grave in Mbaukwu, Awka Local Area of the .

Chiaghana was abducted by unknown gunmen in front of his house on the night of October 25, 2019 after he went to drop off a friend came visiting.

His wife, who allegedly watched from the upstairs as her husband was forced into a car and taken away, alerted the police, which went on the prowl for the .

Information has it one of the suspects arrested last December in connection with the kidnap had led the police to the location of the grave after confessing to the crime.

A source said: “The boy confessed immediately he was shot in the leg. He later took the police to the location where they buried the man.”

A by the state Police Public Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said two of the suspects who escaped with bullet wounds during the gun encounter were declared wanted by the police.

He listed the exhibits recovered from the suspects to include, 20 rounds of 7,62mm ammunition, 8 cartridges, 1 AK 47 rifle, 2 locally made pistols, 8 cartridges, 2 expended cartridges, 7 assorted phones, 1 Toyota Camry car used in committing the crime and a laptop belonging to the victim.

According to News Express, members of the Senior Staff of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UNIZIK chapter, had two weeks ago staged a protest to the State House over the whereabouts of their abducted colleague.
