ABEOKUTA – Dr Ayodeji Ajayi, the Provost, Federal College of Education in Abeokuta, says the institution is complementing government’s funding by revenue generated from the school’s bakery, block industry and pure water factory.
Ajayi disclosed this on Saturday during a courtesy visit to him by executive members of Ogun Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The provost, represented by the school Bursar, Mr Godwin Adeyemi, said that the institution understood that funding of the college could not be left in the hands of the government alone.
He said that it was for this reason that the institution had to support the government by generating funds internally.
“The Federal Government cannot do everything we want for us and so we understand we have to generate funds to do a lot of things by ourselves.
“We see the need to establish revenue generating businesses to complement Federal Government’s efforts and this gave birth to the bakery, block and pure water factories.
“And so far, these businesses are yielding returns and bread from our bakery is rated as one of the best bread around, same with the blocks and sachet waters from our block and pure water factories.
“We established these businesses in order to generate funds to meet up our needs,” he said.
Ajayi said that the institution was the first tertiary institution in the state and that that the college had continued to have relative peace and zero tolerance for cultism.
He promised that the institution would continue to produce quality teachers to impart knowledge on young ones.
Earlier in his address, Mr Kunle Olayeni, the Chairman of the Chapel, said that the reason for the visit was to foster the good relationship between the chapel and the institution.
Olayeni promised that the chapel was ready to project the work of the institution and solicited for its support. (NAN)
