Umuahia –   The Commissioner of Police in Abia, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, has charged the newly promoted officers of the command to demonstrate strict professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Ogbizi also admonished them to shun acts of indiscipline and corrupt practices and to work with the fear of God.

He gave the charge in Umuahia on Tuesday when he decorated 11 officers of the command, who were recently promoted to new ranks, ranging from the Inspectorate to Superintendent Cadre.

The commissioner advised them to conduct themselves in a manner befitting of their new ranks in order to elicit public respect.

“Promotion goes with additional responsibilities, so this new rank poses new challenges to you.

“If you wear the police uniform and your new rank, you must strive to be above board in the discharge of your duties.

“You must not be found wanting by members of the public. You should not close your eyes to professional misconduct and unethical behaviour by your subordinates,” he said.

The police boss charged the officers not to use their positions to suppress their subordinates or members of the public.

He advised them to desist from engaging in bribe or encouraging their subordinates to do so.

“You are corrupt if you fail to correct a corrupt officer under you,” Ogbizi said, urging them to make the police force proud by their public conduct.

Some of the officers promoted included the command spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, who moved to Superintendent of Police, and Administrative Officer, Police Mobile Force 28, Umuahia, Paul Oboware.

They thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for considering them fit for their new ranks and promised to meet the demands of their new positions.

Other officers that were decorated included Oliver Adimonye (DSP-SP), Ayuk Tachen, Peter Oguche, Zachariah Dabo and the Personal Assistant to the CP, Danladi Haruna (ASP-DSP).

Others were Quincy Ojo, Ategu Nkpeh, Samson Agada and Kingsley Ani (Insp. -ASP).
