Abuja Airport slated to reopen for normal flight on April 19 after six weeks of closure to enable Julius Berger Plc carry out reconstruction of the damaged runway has been reopened 18 hours before due date.
Sundiata Post recalls that the Minister of State Aviation, Sen Hali Sirika had put his job on the line if the April 19 deadline for the reopening of the airport is not met. The minister has pledged to resign his appointment if the runway reconstruction was not completed and reopened for normal operation on the 19th of Aril 2017.
About 18 hours to the scheduled reopening of the Abuja airport,Ethiopian Airline landed an Airbus from Adis Ababa.
The Airbus which landed about noon was welcomed with an air spray of water.
Passengers aboard the flight expressed excitement at the smooth landing and the opportunity to land directly in Abuja.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport was closed since the 8th of March for major repairs on the runway and due to re-open tomorrow, April 19, 2017.
