KATSINA – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Katsina State has decried the high rate of abuse of psychotropic substances among teenage girls and women in the state.
The substances are: cough syrup with codeine, nail polish cleaner, lizard faeces and rubber solution.
The NDLEA Commandant in the state, Hajiya Maryam Sani, made the remark while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Katsina.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

‘’This is disheartening. All stakeholders should join hands with the agency to bring an end to the menace,’’ Sani said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
She said the agency had arrested 604 persons for drug-related offences in 2014, 17 of which were female notorious drug users and traffickers.
She said that 782.9 kilograms of cannabis sativa and other psychotropic substances were seized from the suspects during the period under review.
The commandant also said that the agency had counseled over 500 drug abusers and secured conviction of 104 others.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
She said that the agency had succeeded in re-arresting a 62-year-old drug dealer, Ibrahim Matsai, in Kaita Local Government Area of the state.
According to her, the kingpin was arrested with 103 kilograms of cannabis sativa, and that he hadearlier been arrested with 99 kilograms of the substance.
Sani said the command would continue to enlighten the public on the dangers of drug abuse through the media, schools, motor parks and market places.
She called for the support of all stakeholders in order to rid the state of drug abuse and trafficking.(NAN)
