Bauchi – The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) Bauchi, said it had purchased diagnostic machines to enhance health care service and reduce referral cases to other Health care tertiary institutions.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital Dr Yusuf Jibrin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bauchi that the machines would enable the diagnosing and treatment of breast cancer, as well as management of pre-matured babies, among other uses.
“The hospital has procured some machines such as Hematology analyzer (blood), Laser machine for ENT department, Echocardiography for heart and Mammography machine for breast cancer, amongst others.
“The machines will enable us provide services that we were hitherto not offering, as such we no longer need to refer such cases to other hospitals,’’ he said.
On Trauma centre, Jibrin said the hospital, in collaboration with the FRSC, has provided the public with telephone numbers that should be used in alerting the staff of the hospital in advance.
He said that the rrangement was to enable doctors on call make adequate arrangement for such cases before the arrival of patients.
“Telephone numbers have being provided to the general public; this will enable doctors on duty to know that emergency is coming and get them prepared.

“The use of the telephone numbers has immensely helped us to address the impromptu cases that we use to have, ‘’ he said.
