LAGOS – The Managing Director of Access Bank, Mr Herbert Wigwe, on Wednesday restated the bank’s commitment to capture more unbanked Nigerians into the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) financial inclusion programme.
Wigwe said this in a statement signed by the bank’s Head of Corporate Affairs Unit, Mr Abdul Imoyo in Lagos.
He said that the bank had collaborated with Airtel to develop and launch a mobile money service to capture more unbanked Nigerians.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Access Money powered by Airtel allows customers to perform simple, secure and instant financial transactions using their mobile phones.
It also allows customers on the mobile network to send and receive money, make deposits and withdrawals, pay their utility bills and buy airtime for their lines.
The platform provides customers with the ability to receive money through agents nationwide or through cardless withdrawals from any Access Bank Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
Wigwe said, “Through Access Money, we will provide financial access to more and more people and small businesses and create an easier channel for the distribution of financial aid.
“It also makes it easier for government to receive taxes and deliver welfare payments”.
According to him, Access Bank and Airtel agreed to introduce Access Money into Nigeria’s financial landscape in line with the financial inclusion initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Also the Managing Director, Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya, said that it was in strategic partnership with Access Bank to create an enabling avenue for millions of Nigerians to gain financial inclusion.
“We are indeed proud of our partnership with Access Bank and hope that many Nigerians will take advantage of this product,” Ogunsanya said.(NAN)
