SOKOTO – The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) said that it would deploy radar guns along the Sokoto-Gusau highway to reduce road accidents during the yuletide.
The Zonal Commanding Officer of the Corps, Mr Olumide Olagunju said this during the decoration ceremony of nine newly-promoted officers of the corps under the Sokoto State Command in Sokoto.
“These specially made guns are equipment used to track all speeding vehicles to curb the menace of road traffic crashes.
“The radar guns are to be used to ensure that the motorists obey all traffic rules and regulations along all the highways.
“The zones in corps comprise Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states. The corps has also embarked on special 24-hour patrols, tagged “operation velvet’’.
“We are doing this with the active collaboration of the police and other para-military agencies, and there is a mobile court which summarily tries and prosecutes all traffic offenders,” he added.
Olagunju warned the promoted officers not to be complacent as only hard work and discipline would ensure that officers were promoted.
The Sector Commander of the Corps in Sokoto state, Mr Takum Galadima commended the management of the corps for the gesture.
Galadima reiterated the commitment of the officers and men of the corps to continue to be diligent and make Nigerian roads safer.
Mr Ali Baba, who spoke for the promoted officers, promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them by the management.
NAN reports that the new ranks of the promoted officers ranged from Route Commander to Deputy Corps Commander. (NAN)
