ABUJA – The Acting Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Alhaji Kabiru Mashi, has advised members of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) to uphold their professional integrity.
Machi, who was represented by the Director of Internal Affairs, Mr Achilis Amawhe, gave the advice in Abuja at the 3rd Annual Awards of the Abuja chapter of the association.
The association is an independent, non-profit, global association that engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for development of information systems.
Mashi also advised corporate bodies in the country, especially the public sector, to engage certified members of the association in their effort to promote efficiency of their organisations.
“Given the experience I have with members of ISACA working directly under my supervision, I can tell you that all ISACA members are known for integrity and professionalism.
“If we must cut corruption, ISACA members must continue to do what they are doing in terms of reflecting professionalism, integrity and efficiency across all sectors of the nation’s economy,’’ he said.
The chairman said that the engagement of ISACA members by FIRS had impacted tremendously on the revenue generation of Federal Government through the FIRS. [eap_ad_1] “In 2005 when we employed people, we had the privilege of engaging some key ISACA members to pioneer our system audit unit that was coming onboard for the first time.
“Today, we have over 80 ISACA members as employees of FIRS and within the system audit of internal affairs, there are 10 ISACA members.
“The coming on board of ISACA members has added tremendous value to what we do in FIRS, particularly when it comes to system audit practice,’’ Mashi said.
Mr Opeyemi Onifade, President of ISACA, Abuja Chapter, had earlier said the association was passionate about minimisation of risk and maximisation of returns on investment on information system.
Onifade said that the association also build the capacity of its members in the areas of detective and preventive control for fraud in information system as part of its enabler’s framework.
“A lot of public systems are now driven by information systems such as IT and information processes facilities.
“To ensure that information is protected from being lost, altered without authorisation or stolen, you need to put in place the right framework, control and security process,’’ he said.
He also said that the association had introduced students membership programme for undergraduates.
“It is important that we expose our students to the competencies that will make them relevant when they graduate. The whole idea is to catch them young.
“They are not going to pay much like the professional members, but they will have access to our knowledge-base library and conferences that we organise at a discount rate,’’ Onifade said.
The association at the occasion presented awards to members that scored high grades in its certification examinations as well as to those who have made major contributions to its development.
Awards were also presented to some individuals and corporate organisations described as friends of ISACA. (NAN)
