KAFINHAUSA – A woman activist, Hajiya Amina Kachalla, on Tuesday commended the Jigawa Government over the implementation of the Community Safe Motherhood Programme in the state.
Amina made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kafinhausa.
She also commended the state government over the distribution of 11 cars to rural communities in Kafinhausa local government area for transportation of pregnant women to hospitals.
“The safe motherhood programme initiated by the Ministry of Women Affairs has reduced maternal mortality and has enhanced reproductive healthcare delivery at grassroots,” she said.
The activist said women groups in the area had conducted sensitisation activities on safe pregnancy habits to encourage expectant mothers to visit antenatal clinic.
She urged husbands to allow their wives to attend clinics to achieve the goals of quality family healthcare delivery.
NAN reports that the safe motherhood programme was introduced in 2007 as a collaboration between the state government and the British-supported Partnership for Transforming Health Systems (PATHS).
The programme was designed to control infant and maternal mortality as well as curtail pregnancy-related complications.
The state government had so far distributed over 270 vehicles to communities since the inception of the programme to facilitate the transportation of referred expectant mothers to hospitals. (NAN)
