LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Nollywood actress and vocal self-love advocate, Monalisa Stephen, has tragically passed away following complications related to low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
The plus-size influencer reportedly died in Lagos on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Her passing was initially confirmed by a family source and later made public on Wednesday through a post by Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of Best of Nollywood (BON), on Instagram.
“Brand influencer Monalisa Ayobami Stephen is dead. She died yesterday in Lagos after losing the fight against low sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed the death of this hardworking and beautiful soul,” Oloketuyi wrote.
Monalisa was well known for her strong stance on body positivity, mental health awareness, and self-acceptance. She actively used her social media platforms to advocate for plus-size representation and openly shared her personal battles with depression and suicidal thoughts.
In 2023, she stirred controversy when she revealed during an interview that her former partner had performed oral sex on her while she was menstruating — a revelation that sparked both backlash and widespread debate online. Despite the criticism, she stood her ground, often reminding the public that she was simply “living her truth.”
Her sudden death has left fans stunned, with many pointing to her recent silence on social media as a possible sign of declining health.
While her family has yet to release an official statement, messages of mourning and tribute have continued to pour in from fans and fellow public figures, honoring her courage, confidence, and contribution to the discourse on self-love and acceptance.
