YOLA – Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa State have expressed happiness over the news of a ceasefire between the Federal Government and Boko Haram.
A cross section of the IDPs told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Friday that they were excited about the news and hope it would lead to the end of the insurgency.
One of the IDPs, Hamman Ibrahim, said “I am happy about the development and hope that this will lead to a lasting peace that will facilitate our return home.’’
Another displaced person, Hajara Musa, also said she was happy with the development and expressed the hope that the parties would be sincere this time around so that there would be lasting peace.
She said “I hope that both parties are sincere about the renewed talk to ensure that the ceasefire holds for things to return to normal and for us to return to our nornal lives.’’

However, Joseph Ishaku, a Yola resident, said although he was happy about the ceasefire, he wanted more confirmation on the part of the sect.
He said “I am happy about the news but I will still want to hear from the Boko Haram. I expect that they will come out to confirm the ceasefire to clear any doubt.’’
He added that untill the sect members confirmed the ceasefire, many people would continue to think that the whole thing was just politics.
“Whatever the case, anything that will bring an end to this wanton killings is a welcome development,” Ishaku said. (NAN)
