ABUJA – Former House of Representatives member Dino Melaye said the rule of law was upheld by the judgment of a Federal High Court which sacked the Acting Governor of Adamawa, Alhaji Umaru Fintiri, on Wednesday.
The court in Abuja ordered an immediate swearing in of former Dep. Governor Bala Ngilari, who was said to have resigned from the office after the former governor, Murtala Nyako, was impeached.
It also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop the governorship by-election scheduled for Saturday in the state, adding that Fintiri’s occupation of the seat was illegal.
The scenario paved the way for Fintiri, the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, to take over the helm of affairs in Adamawa. [eap_ad_2]
According to Melaye, it is a wrong that has been corrected.
“That’s the rule of law; the court has ruled and we in the APC believe that the rule of law was upheld. We are happy about that. The situation has been ameliorated.’’
On the issue of APC not zoning the presidency, he said: “I cannot speak for the party. The party will do only the lawful and whatever decision taken by APC is a product of deep thinking.
NAN reports that political stakeholders in the state were in a crucial meeting with INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, over the Oct. 11 by-election when the court decision came. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
