Yola – Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has warned that the factional crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state might forced it to conduct the local government election without the party.
The election is scheduled to hold on July 30.
ADSIEC chairman Alhaji Isa Shettima gave the warning on Thursday in Yola while briefing newsmen.
He said that the factional crisis in the PDP in the state that led to the conduct of two primaries was one of the reasons why the commission shifted the polls from June 25 to July 30.
He said that the commission had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to assist it in identifying the authentic group whose list of candidates should be considered in the election.
He said: “the crisis in the PDP is one of the reasons that forced us to delay the election.
“If the problem persisted, we will go ahead with the election without the party as we can’t accept any group without INEC clearance.
“We are still waiting for INEC.”
The chairman said that time was running out, adding that the commission had commenced screening of candidates which is expected to end on Saturday.
He said that all necessary arrangements had been made including production of sensitive and non sensitive materials for the election.
He said that over 13,000 ad-hoc staff had been recruited by the commission to conduct the poll. (NAN)
