Lokoja – Former Kogi Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi, said on Tuesday in Lokoja that the death of Sen. Isiaka Adeleke had robbed Nigeria of “a great democrat and a gifted politician”.
“Adeleke’s demise is a huge loss to the politics of the South West and Nigeria as a whole,” Awoniyi said in a statement in Lokoja.
The former Deputy Governor described the late senator as a man who had contributed to the expansion of progressive politics in the country, declaring that he would be sorely missed.
He said that Adeleke would be remembered as one that loved peace and worked for it, adding that he was a broad politician who was loved by his people for his meaningful impact.
Awoniyi prayed God to console the immediate and extended family of the deceased, urging his political followers to be consoled by the fact that he left good legacies.
The former Deputy Governor urged politicians to learn the virtues of humility and contentment, and stressed the need to put the masses’ interest above selfish considerations, as exemplified by the late politician.
“The late politician was courteous, compassionate and accessible; he played politics devoid of envy and without discrimination on the basis of class,” he said.
