LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson has opened up about a recent encounter with armed robbers in Lagos, describing how he narrowly escaped harm shortly after returning to the country.
In a post shared on Instagram on Sunday, the 47-year-old actor narrated the terrifying experience, accompanied by a video showing visible damage to his vehicle. He credited his quick thinking for helping him avoid what could have been a far more dangerous outcome.
“Story time again. Lagos needs better security than those stop and search that ask ‘oga how weekend, anything for us.’ Got back to the country—I mean my country—and na robbery dem take welcome me, imagine o,” he wrote.
According to Johnson, the attempted robbery occurred near Alapere and unfolded within seconds. “Thank God for smartness and alertness! If not, the attached video would have been worse! It all happened within 15 seconds. I heard a big bang on my windshield and the next thing I saw were three thugs all over my car,” he recounted.
“Trust me, they were more, but that was all my eyes—out of fear—could count! One on the driver’s side and two on the other side. From both sides I heard ‘yo mirror e’ (remove the mirror) and the other side ‘fo glass e’ (break the windshield).”
He explained that the situation was made worse by two trailers blocking the road and emitting smoke, which forced him to slow down and attempt to overtake—leaving him vulnerable to attack. “This happened after Alapere,” he added.
Johnson also revealed that this was not his first time experiencing such an ordeal. “I forgot to mention this is the second time I’m experiencing this. First time was April around 7:15 pm. Today’s own was around 11 pm. God keep keeping us,” he said.
He urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant, especially around the Secretariat area and Magodo, noting, “Once you descend from Third Mainland Bridge and approach Secretariat before Magodo—guys, please stay woke, be safe.”
Despite the frightening encounter, Johnson confirmed that the only damage sustained was to the vehicle and expressed gratitude for escaping unharmed: “God is God. Ekule o.”
