ABUJA – A new Executive Committee of the FCT chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) emerged on Friday in Abuja, with four of the six officers retaining their positions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new executive committee which will serve for the next three years replaces the one which came into power in 2012.
In Friday’s elections, the Chairman, Kayode Adeniyi of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), was returned unopposed, alongside the Vice-Chairman, Ndubueze Chidoka of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
Also, Bunmi Haruna of Independent Television (ITV) was returned unopposed as Assistant Secretary.
However, Martins Odiete of Newswatch had to sweat to fight of Romanus Ugwu of the Sun Newspapers to retain his position as Secretary.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Odiete retained his seat after polling 45 votes against 38 secured by Ugwu.
Ikenna Okonkwo of Nigerian Pilot Newspapers beat the incumbent, Hyacinth Umeh of AIT, to the Financial Secretary position after polling 60 votes against Umeh’s 22.
Salifu Usman of Leadership Newspaper defeated Remi Sulola 44-39 to win the post of Treasurer.
The Chairman, FCT SWAN Electoral Committee, Tunde Orebiyi, commended every member’s comportment, noting that the elections’ smooth conduct was a sign of good things to come in FCT sports.
Adeniyi, in his acceptance speech after being sworn in, assured that his second coming would be better than his first term in office.
He urged members to put the election behind them to move the association and sports reporting forward in the FCT.(NAN)
