Abuja – Nigeria’s pair of Michael Osewa and Barakat Quadri on Thursday in Casablanca, Morocco failed to secure places among the top four at the 2015 African 14 and Under Masters.
Both players, who are featuring in the male and female categories of the continental tennis competition for the best eight in their cadre, failed to move beyond the first round.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition is being organised by the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) and is holding at the Moundir Tennis Academy.
Osewa beat Damien Laporte of Seychelles 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, but it was not enough to earn him a place among the top four after losing his first two games.
The Nigerian who was playing in the boys’ Group A had earlier lost 1-6,2-6 to Soufiane el Mesbahi of Morocco and 0-6, 0-6 to Joubert Klopper of South Africa.
He will now play for the fifth or sixth position, having finished third in his pool.
On her part, Quadri who played in Group B and had won one of her two earlier matches lost to Carmen Fichardt of South Africa 3-6, 4-6.
She had lost 2-6, 6-3, 0-6 to Oumaima Aziz and beat Aisha Niyonkuru of Burundi 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, but she still failed to reach the semi-finals.
