Lagos – The African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) on Thursday said that all was now set for the start of 2016 ITTF Africa Top 16 Cup the championships.
The championship which is a qualifier’s for the ITTF World Cup is scheduled to hold in Khartoum, Sudan, between Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
ATTF in a statement said that Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria and Congo Brazzaville would present two players each in the men and women events.
Congo DRC, Djibouti, Ghana, Libya, Madagascar, Togo, Tunisia, Cameroon and host – Sudan would each present one player at the two-day tournament.
The statement stated that Egypt’s Omar Assar and Dina Meshref were seeded number one in the men’s and women’s events, respectively.
It stated that the tournament would provide another platform for Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri and Egypt’s Assar to renew their continental rivalry in which the Egyptian dominated throughout 2015.
According to the statement draws for the tournament would hold on Feb.13.
“The players and officials are now set for the draws for the tournament h olding on Feb.13 at the International Conference Centre in Khartoum, venue of the championship.
“The 16 listed players will be drawn into four groups of four, while matches will be played in a round robin format.
“The top two players in each group would advance to the knockout stage,’’ it stated.
It said that the first day of the competition, on Feb. 14, would witness the group matches with the two top players emerging the on same day.

“The knockout matches will hold the second day which is on Feb.15, with the winners in the men and women categories emerging as the continent flag bearers at the 2016 ITTF World Cups,’’ it said. (NAN)
