In 2015, when Reverend Father Camilus Ejike Mbaka, Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries Enugu, Nigeria, (AMEN), predicted that President Goodluck Jonathan would not return to Aso Rock, that Muhammadu Buhari would win the 2015 Presidential Election, it was like most members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which Jonathan would contest the Presidential Election, would stone him to death.
They called him all sorts of names, and said that Father Mbaka was a “false prophet”, that he should remove his cassock, or be sacked as Catholic Priest, to enable him to enter into the murky waters of politics.
Mbaka had, during the December 31, 2014 Crossover Night Prayer held at the Adoration Ground in Enugu, predicted that President Goodluck Jonathan was not going to win the February 2015 Presidential Election and called Jonathan “bad luck”. He said that the APC Presidential flag bearer, Muhammadu Buhari would win the poll.
When, after that election, President Jonathan lost to Muhammadu Buhari, Mbaka became an instant hero to most member of the APC. They hailed him for his “boldness” by speaking as “the spirit” had directed him, and called him “a true prophet of God”.
After about six years in office as President, and Muhammadu Buhari failed to perform, particularly with the avalanche of killings going on in different parts of the country, which Buhari had failed to arrest, or do anything meaningful, Mbaka again came on stage, and called for Buhari’s resignation or impeachment.
“God is angry with the President,” he declared. “I know people will say? Mbaka, did you not pray for Buhari, Did Samuel not anoint Saul? What are you talking about? Am I the creator of Buhari? God created him, Nigerians trusted him because he has done well some time ago, but now, how can people just be dying?
“God will ask Nigerians: Nigerians why are you crying? We are crying because our leaders have failed us woefully. If it is in a civilised country, by now, President Buhari will resign. Quote me anywhere and let the whole world hear it. By now, with what is happening, President Buhari should honourably resign.
“We are crying because we don’t have a shepherd. All those that will fight what I am saying now will eventually suffer the rot. If you can’t do it, either you resign or you be changed. A good coach cannot watch his team defeated when he has players sitting, watching on the bench. Either Buhari resigns by himself or he will be impeached,” Mbaka said without equivocation.
Turning to members of the National Assembly, he said: “If the members of these two houses do not want to impeach him and they want to begin to fight Father Mbaka, something worse than what they ever imagined will happen to the members of the Senate and members of the House of Representatives. Disaster is coming.”
Contrarily, however, Father Mbaka praised the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu “for championing the cause of his people.”
“Up till today, I don’t know who Nnamdi Kanu is. I have never seen him face to face. Look at my hand on the altar. But I want to tell you something. Wherever he is, may God bless him. Because if somebody has risen to shout that his brothers are suffering, is it a crime? May the lord bless his courage,” he said.
Ironically, the same APC people who were celebrating Father Mbaka when he said that Buhari would defeat Jonathan, have now turned full circle to call for Mbaka’s head, because he had asked Buhari to resign or be impeached by the National Assembly for failing to perform.
APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, cautioned Father Mbaka to stop playing politics with his vision about Nigeria, stating that he would report Mbaka to the Vatican, the Pope’s seat of power, if he did not stop playing politics with his vision about Nigeria.
“Mbaka has entered too deep into politics. He does not understand the meaning of spiritual warfare that is why he is saying those things,” Nabena said.
For the loquacious, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, “Mbaka is everything apart from what he claims to be.” Garba Shehu alleged that the point of departure between Father Mbaka and President Muhammadu Buhari was that the clergyman had requested for contracts from Buhari, which the President rejected.
“An outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage, will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Buhari to resign or be impeached.
“Here is the point of departure: Father Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Father Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support.
“Anyone familiar with President Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts or any other government business for that matter. He requested the appropriate authorities to deal with the matter in accordance with laid down rules”, Garba Shehu alleged.
Anyone who knows Garba Shehu knows that he is a pathological liar. If Mbaka had requested for contracts from Buhari and the President rejected it, why didn’t he say it until Mbaka came out to call for Buhari’s resignation for non-performance?
Even if Mbaka had requested for contracts from Buhari, what is the crime about it? Since Garba Shehu admitted that Mbaka was supportive of the administration since 2015, why wouldn’t Buhari oblige Mbaka with the contracts, after all Buhari has been giving his Fulani kinsmen lucrative jobs, and appointing them into key positions in government, without following laid down rules.
These, notwithstanding, the critical issue still remains whether Mbaka was telling lies that many people were dying everyday in the country due to insecurity, and that President Muhammadu Buhari was not doing anything meaningful to stem the tide. If that is the case, then, Buhari should resign or be impeached, as Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka had demanded.
