ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – For the second time in the life of the new administration, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was absent as President Muhammadu Buhari received briefings from service chiefs on Wednesday. The Wednesday briefing, like the first meeting held between President Buhari and National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) a few days ago, dealt with security matters and also touched on the Lake Chad Basin Commission’s meeting billed for Thursday in Abuja.
The meeting, which held at the Defence House, Abuja, took place behind closed doors to marshal the country’s plans that would be presented at a meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
Those in attendance were National Security Adviser, Dasuki; Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ismail Aliyu, also attended the meeting.
He said: “We have discussed the issue of the operationalisation of the Multi-National Joint Task Force and the citing of its headquarters in N’Djamena and the contribution from various states.
“This is with the objective of fighting the insurgency within the region. Some issues came out that the president identified; he wants us to see the end of this fight for the purpose of peace, security and prosperity of the region.”
Buhari had vowed to defeat the terrorists and had ordered the military command to move to Maiduguri until the sect is destroyed.
