LAGOS – The Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK) on Tuesday said it had created more than 94,000 jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers in the state.
An official source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the jobs created span across tree planting, landscaping and beautification programmes.
“Precisely, 94,335 people are now on the employment of LASPARK.
“The unskilled workers are being trained on basic horticulture and nurseries,’’ he said.
The source said that LASPARK had 232 landscaped and beautified sites, while about 59,035 trees have been planted in the gardens and parks across the state.
He noted that the parks and gardens were classified into Scenic Parks/Gardens, Public Events Parks and Community Parks.
According to the source, community parks were those that were established and handed over to communities for usage and maintenance.
He warned that it would be an offence to spit, urinate or defecate in any part of the parks, gardens and open spaces.
The official said the agency had devoted 2014 to enlightening people on the uses of parks and gardens and the offences that attract penalties.
He said that from 2015, the agency would begin to arrest and prosecute violators. (NAN)
