TUDUN WADA – Mrs Asabe Gurama, the Branch Manager, Bank of Agriculture, Garki, Abuja, on Thursday, urged Nigerian women to access the bank’s “women-friendly” credit facilities.
Gurama made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the just-concluded National Agricultural Show in Tudun Wada, Nasarawa State, organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
She said that the bank had some women-friendly products meant for female farmers and advised them to avail themselves of the opportunity.
She added that “we have a package called Gem. This is a loan given to women farmers aimed at empowering them and the maximum amount obtainable is N1 million per beneficiary.
“It is easy to access because all that the prospective beneficiary need are two guarantors.
“We also need to inspect the site of the project to know if the farmer is serious to access the loan to avoid giving out loan to people who might use it for something irrelevant.

“We also access the guarantor’s capital and the capability before approving the loan.’’
The branch manager said the bank also have other liberal facilities for women which could be accessed by every woman through monthly contributions over a period of six months.
She, however, explained that before the farmers could apply for any loan, they had to open an account with the bank and operate it for at least three months before any further steps could be taken.
The loan facilities were in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, toward empowering Nigerian women to boost agriculture, she stressed. (NAN)
