Zaria – The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, has appealed to the Kaduna State Government to establish more cottage industries to boost agricultural production in the state.
The emir, who is also the Kaduna State Chairman, Council of Emirs and Chiefs, stated this while felicitating with his subjects to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration on Sunday in Zaria.
Idris said that, such industries when established, would minimise waste of farm produce and create job opportunities for the teaming unemployed.
He also appealed to the government to take urgent steps to curtail the spread of pests ravaging farms by supplying genuine pesticide to farmers.
He also charged farmers and pastoralists to sheath their swords and embrace peace for national growth and development.
The emir cautioned people against hate speeches, urging them to embrace one another to consolidate on the prevailing peace in the country.
According to him, such speeches will only promote segregation, division, discord, ill feeling and collapse of Nigeria as a nation.
He said the call had became necessary in view of the bickering and hate speeches pervading the country’s landscape crisis between the two groups who hitherto lived side-by-side in peace with one another.
“Let me also call on farmer to avoid cultivating grazing routes and pastoralists to keep away from farmlands especially when crops are not harvested.
“People should also avoid bush burning and indiscriminate felling of trees to curb the menace of desertification,” he said.
The emir called on government at all levels to promote both Western and Islamic education to pave way for proper child upbringing thereby restoring societal values.
He appealed to all Nigerians to intensify prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari’s quick recovery and for sustainable peace in the country.
