The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has appealed to members of the public in search of palliatives to stop the attack their Orientation Camps. Shuaibu, in a statement released by Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, the Director, Press and Public Relations at the NYSC, condemned the invasion of the camp.
Maintaining that there are no palliatives in any of their NYSC Orientation Camp across the country, he said the mandate of their Scheme is to groom graduate youths to become role models and contribute their quota to the development of their fatherland, and not warehousing and distribution of palliatives. Brig. Gen. Shuaibu, made this known on Friday, when he received the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu, who inspected the NYSC Orientation Camp at Kubwa, in the FCT.
The Camp was on Tuesday vandalised by hoodlums in search of palliatives. “People think that NYSC camps have palliatives and l want to tell Nigerians that we don’t have palliatives in our camps. “We are preparing for resumption of Orientation programme on November 10, and l want to use this opportunity to appeal to hoodlums to stop the attack on our facilities,” the NYSC Director General said.
Also speaking, Adamu, who said the attack was unwarranted, appealed to members of the public to report anyone seen with any NYSC property that was looted. “For those that broke into this facility and stole, we assure Nigerians that we shall pursue them, track them and prosecute them,” the IGP said. He added that 53 suspects have been arrested and will be charged to court.
