SOKOTO – The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 10, Alhaji Bala Hassan, has ordered the immediate removal of all police check points in Sokoto State.
The AIG gave the directive when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Sokoto State Police Command.
Hassan said: “The road blocks are not properly organised and can cause road crashes especially when the personnel manning the place are not on duty.
“So, our duty is to make sure that the safety of our people is guaranteed and taken into consideration.”
Hassan also directed the production of telephone directory by each state command in the zone, containing the phone numbers of the AIG, Commissioners of Police and Divisional Police Officers.
The states under zone 10 comprise of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.
“These pamphlets are to be distributed to the people in the states to enable them have direct contact with the officers and to control the level of criminal activities in the zone.”
Hassan added that the zonal command intended to purchase more vehicles to aid the officers in their patrol duties.
The police chief said that the police high command would continue to motivate its officers and men by giving priority to their welfare and promotion.
He however warned police personnel in the zone against extortion and other acts of indiscipline.
In his response, the Police Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Shuaibu Gambo, assured the AIG that, the officers and men of the command were always ready to perform their duties diligently. (NAN
