Sokoto-Alhaji Bala Hassan, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, said on Monday that the police were ready to provide security during Saturday’s presidential election in the zone.
It comprises Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
Hassan told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto that an effective operational order on how to provide security at each of the polling units had since been made and issued to the commissioners of police in the area.
He said that the police commands had embarked on “operation show force” with other security agencies to show their preparedness for the general elections.
“We are battle ready to crush any attempt to disrupt the peaceful environment for which our areas of jurisdictions are known for,” he said.
Hassan said the police, with other security agencies, were working round the clock to prevent any form of political violence and thunggery.
He explained that the move was aimed at giving the residents the opportunity to exercise their civic responsibilities without any let or hindrance.
Hassan called on the leaders of the political parties in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states to do more to mobilize their followers to shun all kinds of violence.
” We will not tolerate any act capable of bringing confusion in the on going electoral processes in our areas of jurisdiction.
“Any person or group of people found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.
He appealed to parents not to allow their children to be used as political thugs as any one found carrying dangerous weapons would be arrested and prosecuted. (NAN)
