Air Peace, Nigeria’s leading airline and the largest carrier in West Africa, has announced the promotion of Senior First Officer Chibuzo Mbanefo to the rank of Captain on its Boeing 777 fleet.
Captain Mbanefo’s elevation follows his exceptional performance, leadership, and commitment to the airline’s high operational standards. After successfully completing rigorous training and meeting all regulatory requirements, he has officially assumed the role of Captain, reinforcing Air Peace’s commitment to developing top-tier aviation professionals.
During the decoration ceremony, Capt. Gerald Udaya introduced Mbanefo to Air Peace Chairman/CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, and Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olajide. He highlighted Mbanefo’s remarkable achievements, including over 4,800 flight hours on the Boeing 777 and his outstanding performance in the command upgrade training program. Udaya praised his proficiency and dedication, expressing pride in his transition to the Captain’s seat.
A key moment in the ceremony was the epaulette change, symbolizing his new rank, which was officially conferred by Dr. Onyema and Mrs. Olajide. Capt. Iwo-Brown advised Mbanefo to maintain a disciplined approach, adhere to aviation protocols, and prioritize safety—essential principles for long-term success in the industry.
In an emotional speech, Captain Mbanefo expressed gratitude to Dr. Onyema, his wife, family, and the airline’s management for their unwavering support. He reflected on his journey, starting as a flight dispatcher before transitioning into piloting. With Air Peace’s backing, he moved from Cadet to First Officer, training on the Boeing 737. While he had the opportunity to become a Captain on the B737, his passion for the B777 shaped his career path, leading to this milestone achievement.
