Aisha Yesufu calls for Tinubu’s impeachment over silence on Benue killings

Aisha Yesufu, prominent activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign, has called on the Nigerian Senate to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bola Tinubu, criticizing his continued silence over the ongoing killings in Benue State.
Known for her bold views on national issues, Yesufu expressed deep anger over the President’s failure to publicly address or visit Benue following the recent deadly attack in Yelewata. In that incident, suspected armed herdsmen reportedly invaded the community around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, killing many and injuring several others.
Naija News reports that the Benue State Police Command later confirmed the attack, saying their tactical units confronted the attackers in a shootout in the early hours of Saturday.
Despite the severity of the violence, President Tinubu has not issued a statement or visited the affected area.
Yesufu, however, pointed out that the President quickly offered condolences to India over a plane crash that claimed over 200 lives.
She wrote on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter):
“Tinubu condoled with India and not with Benue.
Tinubu is sitting down there gloating over the deaths of Nigerians whose mandate he truncated to occupy the office of the C-in-C.”
She also questioned why national conversations were focused on political party struggles while the President remained silent about the country’s deepening security crisis.
“Instead of Tinubu’s impeachment to be the topic of discussion, who is supposed to own a political party is the main topic!”
Her remarks appeared to criticize the ongoing internal conflicts and defections within the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently the ruling party in Benue State.
