Abuja – Ubale Mohammed, the national junior tennis coach, on Tuesday in Abuja said he was optimistic that eight Nigerian players would qualify for the African Junior Championship (AJC) in South Africa.
Mohammed told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that with the players’ current performances, most of them would be at the AJC billed from March 8 to March 18.
“I am expecting that our players will get the maximum qualification for eight players, or seven at worst, to feature in South Africa. But hopefully we will pick the maximum qualification.
“I am very happy with the outcome of our players’ results, taking it slow and steady and winning almost all the matches.
“It’s been going well for the Nigerian players since the beginning of the championship, and we have been winning.

“We won a lot of matches in the group stages, and I think almost all of them are now going to move to the knockout stage and from there we shall see what happens,’’ Mohammed said.
NAN reports that players from nine countries are presently participating in the ongoing AJC qualifiers.
They are from hosts Nigeria, Togo, Cote d’ Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Lone, Congo, Cameroon, Mali and Benin Republic.(NAN)
