Abeokuta – Hakeem Akintunde of Ogun State Television (OGTV) on Friday in Abeokuta emerged the new Chairman of Ogun chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akintunde polled 11 votes to defeat Oluwole Otayemi of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), who polled only one vote.
Otayemi, however, did not show up for the election and did not give any excuse for his absence.
Similarly, Abdulfatai Sobande and Lateef Sanusi, both of Rockcity FM Sports, won unopposed the posts of Vice-Chairman and Secretary respectively.
The posts of Treasurer, Financial Secretary and Assistant Secretary, as well as Auditor, were left vacant after no member showed interest in contesting for them during the elections.
NAN reports that 2016 Ogun SWAN Elections was conducted by a three-man Electoral Committee headed by Razaq Ayinla of BusinessDay as Chairman, and supervised by Muideen Adeleke, SWAN’s Vice-President (South-West).
Other members of the Electoral Committee are Olusegun Folarin of Paramount FM, as Secretary, and Yetunde Fatungase of NAN, as Member.
Speaking shortly after his election, Akintunde pledged to run an all-inclusive administration and ensure fair reportage of sports in the state.
He assured that Ogun SWAN would strive to ensure that sports activities were improved upon in the state and the country at large.
Also speaking at the occasion, Adeleke implored all sports reporters and editors in the state and the country at large to chart a good course for effective sports journalism.
“This will re-shape the face of all sports, and thus bring Nigeria to the limelight in the comity of countries in the world,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Akintunde took over from Abiodun Alabi, his OGTV colleague, who decided not to have a shot at a second term in office.(NAN)
