LOME – Modest Kokou Akossan has been re-elected as head of the Togolese Rugby Federation (FTR), Togo’s rugby governing body said in a statement made available to PANA in Lome on Thursday.

The statement quoted Akossan as calling on his team to take up the challenge of developing the sport, which had yet to become popular in the country.

He expressed optimism for the future of Togolese rugby, saying “the world will be surprised by the coming success.’’

The re-elected official said his first challenge would be for Togo to perform well in the international tournament, scheduled to run from May 17 to May 19 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The tournament will feature six West African countries.

Established in 2001, the FTR currently has 13 affiliated clubs throughout the country and is a member of the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) as well as an associate member of the International Rugby Board (IRB). (PANA/NAN)
