WUKARI (TARABA) – The Chairman of Taraba Council of Chiefs and the Aku Uka of Wukari, Dr Shekarau Angyu, has urged politicians to shun politics of bitterness in order to deepen democracy in the country.

Angyu gave the advice when a delegation of Tiv people in Taraba paid him Christmas homage at his palace in Wukari on Monday.
The chairman, who said he was overwhelmed by the group’s visit, enjoined the people of the state to embrace peace for rapid development.
He called on politicians seeking political offices to avoid acts capable of inciting violence.
“Politicians should not insult people or incite their supporters to violence during their campaigns”, he said.

The traditional ruler decried the attitude of some politicians who jumped from one political party to another just to satisfy their selfish interest. “They cause problems with their actions and utterances.
“You have to remain in your party so that people will know you and your political philosophy.

“The situation where you are in one political party today and in another tomorrow only to come back to the party you dumped earlier does not speak good of a politician”, he said.

Earlier, President General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association in Taraba, Mr James Nungwa, appealed to the Aku Uka to use his influence to facilitate the quick return of displaced Tiv people to the state.
He called for equitable distribution of political offices among the tribes in order to reintegrate the people and bring about lasting peace and development in the state. (NAN)
