UYO- Akwa Ibom Government has officially commenced the training of Cash Transfer Facilitators in the 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The News Agency of Nigeria of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was coming ahead of the disbursement of the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (RH-CCT) to the vulnerable.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Ini Adiakpan, launched the one-day training on Friday in Uyo.
Adiakpan said that the training was meant to equip the facilitators with the requisite knowledge and skill to sensitise the communities and beneficiaries and enrol the poor and vulnerable households in the RH-CCT programme.
She thanked President Bola Tinubu for the initiative which, according to him, is different from the previous CCT programme.
Adiakpan said that the previous CCT only covered nine LGAs and the payment model was epileptic in nature, while many beneficiaries could not receive their money as and when due.
“I want to thank the president for this renewed hope project that has come here today.
“Before now, we used to have an epileptic cash transfer to the beneficiaries and only nine LGAs were taken but with Tinubu, the programme is now scaled up to 31 LGAs.
“I am so delighted because this programme is aimed at alleviating poverty, touching the vulnerable and also poorest of the poor,” Adiakpan said.
She urged the facilitators to equip themselves with good communication skills to help them interact professionally with the beneficiaries to avoid hitches in the process.
She also urged them to be judicious with the grant that would be given to them by starting up businesses that would help to lift them up from their miserable conditions.
Also, the State Focal Person for CCT, Dr Godwin Akpan, warned the facilitators against sharp practices, including extorting money from the beneficiaries before enrolling them in the programme.
Akpan said that those caught in the act would face severe sanctions.
He thanked the Federal Government for the initiatives and pledged state’s support for the success of the programme. (NAN)
