Uyo – The Akwa Ibom Government has awarded contracts for the construction of some rural roads and the control of erosion in some parts of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang, who made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uyo on Sunday, said the roads needed urgent attention.
Inyang said that the contracts were for the construction of a five-kilometre road in Ikot Abia, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and another five-kilometre road in Mkpok-Ukuat, Onna council area.
Others were the construction of Ikot Udom road in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, as well as erosion control project in some parts of Oron Local Government Area.
“If you go through Oron Local Government Area when it rains, you will understand why the state government has intervened.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“In governance, you prioritize what is urgent, since you cannot do everything at once,’’ he said.
He said that the state government would construct the Mbo-Esit Eket road that required enormous resources, so that it would take only 10 minutes to move from one point to the other.
The commissioner said the contracts were awarded to local and international contractors, assuring that they would be on site this week to begin work.
He commended the Gov. Emmanuel Udom administration for approving the projects, noting that the governor had high level of commitment to transforming the rural communities. (NAN)
