AUSTRALIA- Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie, has sent a message of ‘respect’ to England’s Lauren James following both teams’ 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16 encounter on Monday.
England defeated Nigeria 4-2 via penalty shootout in the Round of 16 after the match had ended in a 0-0 draw after 12 minutes.
During the encounter, James intentionally stepped on Alozie and the Chelsea forward was given her marching orders in the 87th minute.
As a result of the red card, James will miss England’s next three matches.
The 21-year-old came under fire on social media for stepping on Alozie.
However, in a tweet via her Twitter account on Tuesday, Alozie offered her respect to James.
She tweeted, “Abeg, rest. We are playing on the world’s stage.
“This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. All respect for Lauren James.”
