Abuja- A 45-year-old interior decorator, Simeon Uroko, on Wednesday appeared in a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged misappropriation.
Uroko, an Abuja resident, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of one million naira, which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecuting counsel, Judith Obatomi, told the court that Hajiya Zainab of Nyala Close, Abuja, reported the matter at the Berger Police Outstation, Abuja, by on Sept. 5.
Obatomi said that sometimes in 2013 the complainant entrusted the defendant with curtains valued six million naira to sell for her.
She said that the defendant sold some, returned the unsold and gave the complainant N2, 800, 500.
The prosecutor also said that from the money the defendant returned and the curtains unsold were five million naira, adding that he converted one million naira to his personal use.
“All efforts made by the complainant to recover her money proved abortive and during police interrogation the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.
Obatomi said the offences contravened sections 311 and 308 of the Penal Code, which attracts eight years imprisonment or fine on conviction.
The Magistrate, Mrs Chinyere Nwacheonwu, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Nwacheonwu said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and be in the business of furniture or electronics.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 17 for further hearing.
